How to Play
Pick 6 numbers from 1 to 50, or ask for a Quick Pick. Each game costs $2.00, and your six numbers are automatically entered into three separate drawings: the Lotto Jackpot drawing, Lotto Million 1, and Lotto Million 2. For an extra $1.00 per game, add Extra Shot, which multiplies your non-jackpot prizes (a number between 1 and 25 is drawn; it does not apply to the Jackpot or either Lotto Million drawing). Tickets are available at Illinois Lottery retailers, online at illinoislottery.com, or through the official app. You must be 18 or older to play. Before choosing your numbers, take a look at our hot and cold lottery numbers page.

Illinois puts its cards on the table: the official Winner’s Handbook lists 4.95% Illinois income tax withholding plus 24% federal withholding. In Illinois, where the lottery withholds 4.95% for the state on top of the 24% federal, meaning a $100M lump-sum prize would face roughly $29M in combined withholding — 24% federal ($24M) plus Illinois’ 4.95% (about $5M) — leaving about $71M before the final tax return settles the rest. See your exact take-home with our lottery tax calculator.
Overall odds of winning any prize in base Lotto: 1 in 6.9. Jackpot winners may choose between a lump sum or annuity payments; the lump sum requires claiming within 60 days of the drawing date. If you are weighing the two options, read our annuity vs. lump sum guide.
