Texas Two Step Draw Hub: Rules, Cutoff Times & Taxes
Texas Two Step is the Lone Star State’s homegrown lotto game, drawn every Monday and Thursday at 10:12 p.m. CT for $1 per play. One quirk: the Texas Lottery pauses all sales during its “Draw Break” from 10:02 to 10:15 p.m. CT on draw nights — so the real cutoff is 10:02 p.m. sharp.
Winners get 180 days after the draw date to claim — after that, the prize is forfeited. Prizes of $599 or less can be collected at any Texas Lottery retailer. Anything $600 or above goes through a claim center, and prizes from $1 up to $5 million can also be claimed by mail.
Texas has no state income tax — it’s prohibited by the state constitution — and the lottery publishes no state withholding at all. Only the standard 24% federal withholding applies on prizes over $5,000. In Texas, with no state income tax, meaning a $100M lump-sum prize would face roughly $24M in federal withholding alone, leaving about $76M before the final tax return settles the rest.
